For the MEC line in particular, I have used the Norfolk Southern Bright Gray HO ballast, item #1332. Older parts of the layout have different ballasts, and the recent B&M Groveton area was done by mixing a number of ballasts together, but using AZ Rock & Mineral Northern Pacific Gray HO scale # 1302 as he primary starting point.
