This web site is for information, stories, how-to's and other things relating to my model railroad, featuring the rail lines in and around St. Johnsbury, Vermont circa 1980. The model railroad features the Maine Central, Boston & Maine, Canadian Pacific and Lamoille Valley, as well as a little bit of the Central Vermont, Grand Trunk and North Stratford Railway. What a nice layout, been following it for several years. That light colored ballast looks so real! Could you tell what that is? Particularly near the "Crawfords" siding area. Thanks, Jason in Arkansas
Jason, I used Arizona Rock & Mineral Co. ballast which I think is an excellent product. For the MEC line in particular, I have used the Norfolk Southern Bright Gray HO ballast, item #1332. Older parts of the layout have different ballasts, and the recent B&M Groveton area was done by mixing a number of ballasts together, but using AZ Rock & Mineral Northern Pacific Gray HO scale # 1302 as he primary starting point.
